Trying to format old slave drive

Hi,

I recently had my operating system restored and i had a drive used as a slave with the old data.

I know want to use this drive as a backup.

I have gone through fdisk however i have come across some errors.

It says that the partition table is currently busy so it would only work on reboot.

I dont want to reboot as it may not come back online as when i have tried to verify the partition table it has come back with some errors.

Code:
Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/hdc: 82.3 GB, 82348277760 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 10011 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdc1             1     10011  80413326   83  Linux

Command (m for help): v
62 unallocated sectors
Does this mean that it is using all the data on the drive and how do i allocate the 62 unallocated sectors?

Thanks
