Web Hosting network configuration in a COLO environment
Hi everyone,I own a small development company and am now expanding into web hosting in order to better serve my customers. I have recently purchased the necessary equipment as far as processing and storage is concerned and am pretty confident in my selections (but if you have any concerns or recommendations please feel free to express them, I appreciate any help you have to offer). The equipment is as follows:
2x DNS Servers (Dell Poweredge 750's - 2.8 P4, 1 Gb RAM, 40Gb SATA)
1x Domain Controller (Same as DNS)
2x WWW Servers (Same as DNS & DC but Balanced via NLB, Sites are store on NAS)
1x NAS Server (Dell PowerVault 745n, 4x 300Gb SATA in RAID-5 Array)
1x DB Server (Dell Poweredge 2850 - Dual Xeon 3.0, 2 Gb RAM, 2x 36Gb SCSI RAID-0 for OS, 3x 146Gb SCSI RAID-5 for DATA)
1x Mail Server (Same as DB)
1x Dell 136t Tape Library (I know, it's overkill but I got it soooo cheap, and yes it works)
1x Dell PowerConnect 2624 Gigabit switch
I am colocating, and my current deal provides me with a full 42u Cabinet, 10Mbs Bandwidth (non-burstable, which I am a little concerned with), and a 20 amp power strip.
So, my question is...
Based on the info above, what brand/model of routers and/or firewalls would you recommend, how many, and where should they be placed to provide optimum security and configuration? Please keep in mind that I plan to grow but I don't need Juniper M-one-bazillion router, it just need to be capable of 20 Mbs or so of sustained traffic as I'll upgrade beyond this point.
BTW, you may be wondering about the PowerConnect switch, I bought it thinking since I only have an ethernet connection right now (possibly a FastE soon), I could save money by buying a Fast-E router and have the switch between it and the servers so they may communicate with each other at Gigabit speeds, am I correct about this?
I would really appreciate any help on this matter, thank you.
