Hardware configuration for new hosting platform
I'm hoping to tap into some collective knowledge here and see what you consider to be a good topology for a reliable hosting platform.
I've got a firewall and a switch and several servers.
I want to create a reasonably resillient windows hosting platform such that if a single server failed, the site is still running by failing over to a spare.
I'm interested in opinions regarding
- placing IIS and MSSQL Server on a single server or split between two servers.
- whether or not to get a shared scsi drive enclosure
- whether to use windows 2000 or 2003
I thought of having two mirrored web servers and two mirrored db servers, or two web/db combined servers but I'm not sure how to undertake the db replication.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
