Secondary A DNS record
Hi,I'm looking for a simple dns failover method.
Unfortuantly, DNS seems to act as "round robin", except MX.
I have my site, with A record to the IP. I have 2 nameservers, on two seperate networks.
They are currently synced.
What I would like to do is set a "backup" A record on my domain, so that in the event of the main server failing, visitors can be directed to a temporary page.
I'm not after a complete duplicate of my site, just a page I can put up letting my customers know there is a problem, and maybe provide a support contact form which will send to a cell phone or something.
I want it to happen automatically, so I initially was thinking DNS, but i'm not sure how it would be done, because if I set another A record- 50% of the time they'd go to that page?
Any ideas?
