Anyone suggest an alternative to Windows load balancing?

Hi all,

We've been using Windows Load Balancing to successfully balance ten virtual websites, I'm now in the process of individually upgrading each of the virtual websites to a new server (which uses a new set of our application DLL's).

I thought I'd be able to do this using wlbs, by simply stopping the website I want to upgrade and starting the upgraded website on another of the load balanced servers. Unfortunately wlbs isn't smart enough to tell that a website has been stopped and issues the user with a 'no website configured at this address' message.

So I'm now looking for an alternative solution. The most critical issue is being able to move a website to another server without any downtime or DNS changes.

Could I use a F5 BIG-IP box, or put a Linux Virtual server in front of my web servers? How would you do this?

Thanks

Martin
