Trying to setup a web server on my home pc
Hello there,I looked in vein for a host that would allow me to create MySQL databases and grant user privellges without using their cpanel. Instead I want to be able to do this from SQL embeded in PHP.
Anyway, so I have decided to setup my own server. This is the first time I have done this so please could someone advise with the following:
(I am running Windows XP and Apache 2.0 something.)
In the httpd.conf I have set 'listen' to port 80 and the Servername to my IP and port 80.
I have set the virtualHost to my IP (but do not understand what this does?).
My web server is up and running (displays page when type h t t p : / / Localhost / in browser) but when I type the IP address in it throws a 403 error??? So I can not access it from the web. How do I point to my server from the internet??
Also I have been looking in to DNS. I have a domain name registered and want to point that to my server. I can not work out for the life of my how to go about doing it?
I know I am asking a awful lot, but any advise would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Dan
